It presents the author’s doctoral thesis as a practical example of how such a framework is useful to help clarify enquiries where artistic artefacts and spaces form the substance of iterative experiment and reflection. Adapted from its original discipline of psychology into a number of other scholarly fields, heuristic enquiry now bears a plethora of specific but incongruent interpretations. Therefore, I suggest it is timely to define heuristics specifically for experiential artistic investigation. Such a framework may support a researcher through several existential aspects: It develops the practitioner’s self-awareness, and a sensitivity towards connecting perception and tacit understanding. It facilitates the discovery of new meaning from and through artistic experiences by allowing an exploratory question to evolve. Finally, it fosters exchange, building interpersonal learning.</p> ER -
