Contribuições acadêmicas do design brasileiro frente a pandemia de COVID-19

The year 2020 will be remembered for the beginning of the worst pandemic since the Spanish flu of 1918. Its effects go far beyond the staggering number of dead and infected: the congestion of health services, social isolation, remote work, increased unemployment and poverty, among others. There is a global effort for technical and scientific solutions in areas ranging from biology to engineering, from medicine to design, aiming to overcome the problems brought by the disease and its consequences. In this context, this article presents, from a literature review and documentary research, projects performed by professors, students and technicians linked to educational institutions of design in Brazil, to respond to social demands arising from the pandemic of COVID-19. The results demonstrate how the academy can contribute in a remarkable way to the conception of adequate and timely solutions.
