Pintando las mesas de la cocina: explorando los espacios creativos domésticos de las mujeres a través del diseño de publicaciones

Resumen

Los espacios que ocupan las mujeres en la sociedad han estado envueltos en vergüenza, privación de derechos y contención, con la cocina como punto focal de este argumento. Este artículo tiene como objetivo sugerir formas en que las mujeres pueden ocupar un espacio en la cocina, este pilar integral de la sociedad que defiende la conexión y la creatividad como una forma de arte. Junto a este cambio subversivo de connotación están los cambios dentro del feminismo, a medida que las perspectivas feministas sobre las mujeres dentro de las cocinas se desarrollan junto con el movimiento histórico. En este proyecto, la investigadora ha utilizado un paradigma post-positivista bajo una metodología auto-etnográfica para documentar, analizar y celebrar las variaciones dentro de las perspectivas feministas sobre la creatividad dentro de los espacios domésticos a través del diseño textil y de publicaciones. Con el fin de cambiar las perspectivas de estos espacios domésticos, los resultados del diseño rindieron homenaje a las artistas feministas que hicieron de la cocina su estudio y a otras que capturaron la cocina como una contribución artística a las perspectivas feministas de estos espacios. A través de métodos heurísticos de prueba, experimentación y resultados físicos, la investigadora seleccionó una serie de artefactos de diseño que destilan las experiencias viscerales de cómo las mujeres ocupan espacio en las cocinas. A través del diseño de publicaciones, hay una documentación de las perspectivas feministas cambiantes sobre los espacios domésticos de las mujeres a través del contraste y el análisis de artículos, poemas, recetas y puntos de vista de artistas. Estos contextos están respaldados por la tactilidad del resultado del diseño físico hecho con textiles, cerámica y material impreso. La investigación destila y ofrece un destino para la celebración de las formas en que las mujeres ocupan el espacio dentro de la cocina y las creaciones artísticas integrales dentro de esos espacios.

Ruby Brown, Auckland University of Technology

Ruby Brown es una diseñadora gráfica y de publicaciones interesada en explorar la investigación en torno a la textura, la comunicación intangible y el desarrollo de perspectivas feministas. Nacida y criada en Tamaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, actualmente está explorando formas de utilizar herramientas de diseño de publicaciones para expandir la experiencia de diseño, negociando entre conceptos intangibles y artefactos físicos.

Marcos Mortensen Steagall es Profesor Asociado en el Departamento de Diseño de Comunicación de la Universidad Tecnológica de Auckland - AUT desde 2016.
